Governance
Our Governance team provides professional advice and support to all Local Governing Committees across the Trust enabling them to fulfil their role in terms of setting the strategic direction for the school, holding leaders to account, engaging with stakeholders and monitoring use of resources.
All Local Governing Committees within the Trust receive the following support:
Clerking
- Provision of a named and consistent clerk who provides independent, high-quality, professional clerking for at least three Local Governing Committee (LGC) meetings a year. Additional clerking can be provided for ad hoc meetings dependent upon capacity.
- Effective organisation and administration of meetings.
- Support in setting the cycle of meetings and provision of focused well-structured agendas.
- Production and circulation of all papers for clerked meetings.
- Meeting action points circulated within 5 working days following the meeting.
- Accurate, high quality, quality assured minutes with a draft sent to the Headteacher and Chair for amendment/approval within 21 working days of the meeting.
- Follow-up actions and/or correspondence undertaken as instructed by the LGC.
- Maintenance of records relating to the LGC and management of statutory information and governance documentation.
- Oversight of membership and structure.
Advice and support
- Unlimited year-round advice and guidance on all matters relating to governance from your clerk, supported by the Director of Governance.
- Support to ensure compliance with the Trust Scheme of Delegation.
- Access 24 hours a day to all Governance documentation via Governor Hub, our online governance Portal.
- Regular Trust updates and news provided through GovernorHub
- Get Information About Schools (GIAS) updated and regularly reviewed in relation to Governance.
- Access to a LGC calendar through GovernorHub.
- Secure sharing and storage of documents through GovernorHub.
- Advice and support regarding appointment and re-appointment of Governors.
- Guidance on policy and practice when dealing with school complaints.
- Advice and support related to succession planning.
- Advice and support related to admissions.
- Advice and support related to exclusions.
- Advice and support related to appropriate training and self-review.
- For Chairs and Vice Chairs, access to a twice termly Chairs’ Briefing.
Our clerks attend regular training, development, and briefings to ensure their knowledge is current and we have a Trust wide consistent approach to Governance support.
Training programme
All Governors can access a comprehensive and regularly updated unlimited training and development, free of charge through our Trust training programme including sessions which take account of the statutory/legal requirements, key aspects of governance and national/local and Trust developments in leadership and governance.
